“VistaSource, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Applix, Inc.
(NASDAQ:APLX) announced today a new partnership agreement with ACA
Pacific Technology, an Asia Pacific-wide IT Marketing and
value-added distribution company of leading computer hardware and
software. With the new agreement, VistaSource will leverage ACA
Pacific’s broad distribution channels in Greater China, the
Philippines, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand as a means to
distribute its Applixware Office 5.0 for Linux.
ACA Pacific
will benefit by expanding the resources by which it can offer its
customers total IT solutions through “Best-of-Breed” products. The
deal marks the first inroads of VistaSource Linux products into the
Pacific Rim region.”

“With The Chinese Ministry of Education’s announced commitment
to Linux and the Chinese government’s articulated preference for
the open, less expensive operating system, tremendous opportunities
exist in China and throughout the Pacific Rim. The deployment of
VistaSource Office 5.0 for Linux in the Pacific Rim is the first
step towards gaining a significant presence in this market.”

“Additionally, VistaSource is the only of the non-windows
software companies to offer a localized, double-byte version of its
software. VistaSource currently has a strong presence in the
Japanese market through its double-byte Kanji version of Applixware
Office for Linux. The development of a Simplified Chinese version
of the suite, utilizing the same double-byte technology, is
indicative of VistaSource’s commitment to business development in
the Pac Rim. Upon the completion of the Chinese Version,
VistaSource will utilize these same ACA Pacific distribution
channels for its distribution.”
