“Linus Torvalds, the 29-year-old creator of the Linux operating
system, attacked Microsoft Corp. and Bill Gates as producers of
inferior products during a speech today at the Spring Comdex trade
show.”

“Addressing a crowd of more than 600 at McCormick Place,
Torvalds said that the computer marketplace needs more choices than
just Microsoft.”

“His speech came just 90 minutes after Gates gave the keynote
address at the opening of the show. By contrast, the Microsoft
chairman didn’t mention Torvalds or Linux, the computer operating
system that experts say may become a threat to Microsoft’s
Windows.”
