“The Linux and Unix worlds on Monday continued their move to
come together, this time on the hardware side, with the acquisition
by Ebiz Enterprise of Jones Business Systems. Ebiz, based here,
builds white-box systems running the Linux operating system, while
Houston-based Jones is a major builder of white-box systems running
under SCO Unix.”
“Ebiz focuses on building specialized Linux servers, including
proxy, file, print and VPN servers, Shaw says. Jones, on the other
hand, is the largest builder of SCO Unix systems, he says. The
combined company gives integrators a simple, easy path to Linux,
Shaw says. “So now Linux and Unix VARs have a single place to come
to get their specialized systems built and tested,” he says.”
“Solution providers with both Linux and SCO Unix offerings
praised the deal. The acquisition will help move SCO solutions
partners to Linux, says Mike Seidner, owner of Phoenix-based
MDS Computer Services. Jones will help Ebiz acquire Unix expertise
and might help Ebiz beef up its technical support, Seidner
says.”
