ComputerWorld: IWon.com selects Jabber as base for instant-messaging service

“Some users and experts are looking beyond the interoperability
wars between instant messaging (IM) services to companies like
Jabber.com Inc. that can add applications and content to the IM
client.”

“The debate of interoperability of IM systems continues as users
of America Online Inc.’s Instant Messenger still can’t chat with
users of Microsoft Corp.’s MSN Instant Messenger or Yahoo Inc. The
Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is trying to create
interoperability standards between IM services….”

“Jabber is a subsidiary of Webb Interactive Services Inc., also
based in Denver. The Jabber IM software is open-source and
XML-based, with an affiliated, proprietary commercial product. A
Jabber spokesman said the iWon deal is the first time a large
customer will license Jabber’s commercial IM products.”
