“…if a breakup [of Microsoft] were to lead to development of
Office for Linux, a good number of users said they would consider
that alternative operating system, according to the survey of 104
information technology professionals working in companies of more
than 500 employees.”
“Only 23% of those surveyed favored the government’s proposal to
separate Microsoft’s operating system business from its
applications business, while 48% favored Microsoft’s counter
remedy. The remainder favored a variety of other options, ranging
from breaking up Microsoft into more than two parts to leaving the
company alone.”
“In the poll, 39% said they would be “more inclined” to use
the Linux operating system if Office and other applications were
available for that system. Just over half said it would make no
difference.”
