“This month, we dedicate our issue to the increasingly important
topic of open source. More specifically, we focus on the inevitable
transition of the open source development model from a labor of
engineering love to a more commercially influenced development
process.

“Our choice of open source as the theme of this month’s issue is
occasioned not only by the great strides that open source has made
in the last year, but also by an upcoming conference which we are
proud to co-sponsor. Titled ‘Open Source–Open Standards:
Maximizing Utility While Managing Exposure, ‘the conference will
seek to interactively identify and analyze the remaining hurdles
that may stand in the way of ubiquitous adoption of open
source-based products…”
