“Linuxcare CEO and co-founder Arthur Tyde says he fully expects
to complete a widely anticipated merger with Linux software
developer Turbolinux, marking the beginning of what Tyde expects
will soon be a wave of consolidation within the open software
movement.”

“In an exclusive interview with VARBusiness , Tyde says his
service-oriented company has not enjoyed the growth that it thought
it would by now and now recognizes the advantages of being linked
with a product-oriented company. To that end, he has discussed the
opportunity with marrying his company, which provides education,
professional services, certification and technical support to the
Linux market, with Turbolinux, a pioneer in Linux clustering and
other software initiatives.”

“Let’s face it, the support market for the enterprise did
not develop like we thought it would. Most of our customers are the
big OEMs–the IBMs, Compaqs and Suns–or ISVs. We have very few
corporate customers,” he explains. “That’s directly related to our
early assumptions, which were wrong about what the [Linux] adoption
patterns were going to be.
