“If the hi-tech industry had an annual Oscar night, who would be
honored? Would the top executives always make the list, or would a
virtual unknown take some of the coveted spots? Here are my picks
for best executives, best directors, newcomers and the tried and
true.”

“What about Best Actor in a Supporting Role or, rather, Best
Supporting Male Executive in a Supporting Role? My choice: Sam
Palmisano. He is the obvious Mr. Fix-It at IBM. Palmisano has led
IBM’s Global Services division, its PC division and most recently
is helping to craft its Linux strategy. On the top of every
headhunter’s list, I believe this man will get the No. 1 spot at
IBM when Lou Gerstner retires.”

“As for Best Screenplay (I am going to tweak it to Best New
Business): Linux immediately comes to mind as a growing force in
the market. It seems no one can get enough of Linux.”
