“In a CRN survey of 200 solution providers, 49 percent said they
will be deploying more e-business solutions on the Linux platform.
Forty-one percent said their Linux deployments will stay the same,
8 percent said they were not sure and 2 percent said they expect to
deploy fewer e-business solutions on Linux.”

“Linux is a good operating system, and it’s going to gain wider
acceptance,” said William McCrary, a technical engineer with
Earthworks Inc., an Olive Branch, Miss.-based solution provider.
“[However], it still has to prove itself at the corporate desktop
level,” he said.”

Linux is the low-cost open-source platform being offered as
an option by several major system vendors, but it still trails
Windows as the preferred e-business platform. However, that gap is
closing quickly, solution providers said.

“In fact, 38 percent of solution providers said they currently
prefer to deploy e-business solutions on the Linux platform, with
43 percent saying they prefer Windows.”
