“So, Larry Ellison says he wants Oracle to have its own Linux.
The first question that comes to mind is, ‘Why?’ The second
question is, ‘What impact would this have on Red Hat?’

“The ‘Why’ question is easy to answer from an emotional
perspective but a little more difficult to answer from a business
perspective. My experience tells me that Oracle, emotionally, is
unhappy that some upstart company like Red Hat is enjoying a P/E
ratio of 72 on their stock and a market cap of $5.25 billion on
sales of $200 million. Compare those numbers to Oracle’s P/E of
23.58…”
