Editor’s Note: Spring Brings ELF, Solutions to West Coast

By Brian Proffitt
Managing Editor

Day after day, hour after hour, Linux Today has published
success stories about how company X migrated their servers or their
desktops to from operating system Y to Linux.

It is a sign, I think, of how popular Linux has become that
while we used to slow the newsfeed down at night, lately we have
been keeping the rate of postings at a steady level–sometimes even
accelerating the posts just to keep up with all the news that’s out
there.

But pointing you to the stories is not enough. While there are
some excellent tutorials out there, there is nothing like hearing
the information for yourself and interacting with the experts that
are making Linux a success story in the enterprise.

Thus, Linux Today is once again sponsoring the Enterprise
Linux Forum
(ELF). The Spring 2003 conference will be in Santa
Clara, California from June 5-6, with pre-show workshop sessions on
June 4. The range of topics will be broad, but the depth of
knowledge you will get from all of the sessions will be great
indeed.

The Santa Clara conference follows the very successful debut ELF
held last Fall in Boston. There, attendees gathered to learn about
and discuss the real-world solutions necessary to get Linux and
open-source software actually going in their organizations. The
feedback we received from that conference was very positive, and we
have taken all of the comments to build an even better show out in
Santa Clara.

Topics that will be addressed range from security, with sessions
hosted by Bastille Linux’s Jay Beale and security expert Bob Toxen,
to enterprise systems management, with sessions by Ximian’s Bob
Erskine and Sunil Saxena from Intel. Topical issues such as grid
computing and the legal ramifications of using open source will
also be delved into at this two-day conference. For a more complete
agenda, visit the ELF
conference schedule
.

Whatever your topic interest, you should find something of
interest during our solutions-oriented sessions. We’re serious
about the solutions, too, because the ELF sessions are not just
another marketing opportunity for vendors: the speakers will be
there to offer you real advice and real examples of how Linux can
work in your organization.

I am very excited about this conference, because we have worked
through a lot of the opening show bugs. Thus, we will be delivering
polished and very expert content to conference attendees.

There will be other things to see at the ELF besides the
sessions, of course. The show’s vendor floor is steadily growing
with each iteration of the ELF that we put on, so you will have a
chance to meet Linux experts one on one to learn what solution
might work best for you.

Linux Today readers have a special inviation to attend an
after-session meet and greet during the conference as well. I and
editor emeritus Michael Hall hope to meet many of our West Coast
readers there.

So if solutions are what you seek, then come to our Spring
Enterprise Linux Forum and get the knowledge you need to make Linux
a success in your company.
