Enterprise Linux Today: Red Hat Acquires Akopia, Will Integrate Its Product into e-Commerce Line

“Akopia’s Interchange e-commerce application rounds out Red
Hat’s e-commerce platform.”

“Thursday at LinuxWorld, Red Hat, Inc. announced that it has
acquired Akopia, Inc., of Reston, Virginia and will integrate
Akopia’s popular Interchange open source e-commerce application
into Red Hat’s solutions portfolio. That portfolio now includes
Interchange, the Stronghold Secure Web Server, and CCVS e-commerce
payment system. Together these components form an e-commerce
platform that Red Hat calls its comprehensive e-commerce solution
stack.”

“The terms of Red Hat’s acquisition of Akopia were not
announced. Red Hat’s incorporation of Akopia’s Interchange
e-commerce application into its product line is likely to adversely
affect Zelerate, Inc., the other open source e-commerce company,
which recently announced layoffs and closure of its Albuquerque
office.”

“Red Hat emphasizes the completeness of its e-commerce
platform’s open source offerings for both the device and server
markets. Red Hat’s comprehensive solutions are tied together
through Red Hat Network, an Internet-based service for delivering
open source innovations, upgrades, security features, and user
support quickly and cost-effectively.”
