“IBM has packaged together the software for its three most
requested servers — database, e-mail and Web application — into
what it describes as the first integrated Linux solution for small
businesses.
The IBM Small Business Suite for Linux includes
IBM’s DB2 Universal Database, WebSphere Application Server and
Lotus Domino. It also features a number of Web design and
productivity tools, including WebSphere Homepage Builder, Suite
Installer, Domino Designer and WebSphere Studio.”

“In short, we are delivering the tools to help customers with
data management, messaging and collaboration, productivity, Web
site creation and design,” said Scott Handy, the director of Linux
solutions marketing for IBM’s software division. The Suite
Installer and desktop software come in 10 languages — including
English, French, German, Chinese, Japanese and Korean — and is
available worldwide starting today. While the retail price of the
components, if bought separately, would cost more than $3,600, the
suite is retailing for $499.”

“While the individual components in the suite are not new, the
Suite Installer is significantly advanced. … “Essentially, users
will now be able to define exactly what software they want to
deploy and to where. This is particularly attractive to Independent
Software Vendors and Value-Added Resellers, as it allows them to
add applications to the suite, which can be deployed to both
Windows and Linux-based clients,” Handy said.”
