eWeek: Sun makes light of thin-client upkeep [Sun Ray]

“Sun Microsystems Inc. has made a couple of improvements to its
Sun Ray platform that will make the thin-client environment easier
to manage, particularly in operations that run 24-by-7. However,
there are some minor quirks in the load balancing and failover
support.”

Introduced late last month with some compelling new
terminal hardware, the new management software has gained group
server failover capabilities that allow sites to perform routine
server maintenance while allowing users to continue working.

In addition, Sun has improved the software’s Web-based management
tools.”

“The fundamental architecture of the Sun Ray thin-client system,
which relies on a server to provide all processing for the clients,
has not changed since eWeek Labs reviewed the original Sun Ray 1 in
the Jan. 24 issue. We found the performance of the software and
clients to be the same, and our overall recommendation, that the
products provide a cost-effective means to deploy line-of-business
applications to end users, stands.”
