“Migrating the Microsoft software of Berlin’s Central
Administration to Linux is possible in principle, the
administration of Berlin’s Department of the Interior states in a
letter to the Executive Committee of the Senate, the parliament of
the German federal state of Berlin. According to the present state
of knowledge when compared with Windows Linux could be run with
slightly lower operational costs, the letter adds. However,
executability and the costs involved in migrating
administration-specific software would have to be regarded as the
‘critical factors in reaching a decision on this matter.’ The
administration of the state of Berlin was currently looking into
the details pertaining to these circumstances, the letter, which
heise online has seen, goes on to say.
