“A pioneer of embedded systems, Lineo, has decided to test the
initial public offering waters for an embedded Linux company at a
time when many Linux stocks have fallen through the floor.”
“Lineo said yesterday that it has filed a registration statement
with the Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public
offering (IPO). Lineo is a spin-off of Caldera Systems in Lindon,
Utah, and produced an embedded version of Linux from Caldera’s
OpenLinux, called Embedix.”
“Lineo’s founder and chief executive, Bryan Sparks, has been
an aggressive proponent of Linux as an embedded system and recently
commented that the field that Lineo once occupied by itself was
getting increasingly crowded.“
