of Linux can be undermined if the technology ends up exhibiting a
disproportionately high total cost of ownership. And that’s exactly
what can happen if systems administrators have to spend time
managing Linux servers separately from other enterprise resources
or have to use different tool kits to do so.”

“Big companies want to do one-pass administration of thousands
of boxes at a time, regardless of which OS those boxes happen to be
running,” says Aberdeen Group analyst Bill Claybrook. “They don’t
want to maintain separate tools and teams for Linux
management.”
