IT Manager’s Journal: Are the Wheels Coming Off Novell’s Wagon?

“According to Novell’s 2004 annual report, the year 2004 brought
Novell’s long-time vision and corporate strategy into sharp
meaningful focus. Looking at the past two quarters for fiscal year
2005, fuzzy and out of focus might be a better descriptor. Although
the company received some temporary relief as a result of cash
settlements from legal suits, in terms of operating performance,
the wheels are close to coming off the wagon.

“If you dig into Novell’s 2004 10K filing with the Securities
and Exchange Commission (SEC), the problem is no secret from
management. According to filing, the company said that its NetWare
revenue stream continues to deteriorate, declining by $36 million
in fiscal 2004, excluding the impact of favorable foreign exchange
