“Responding to a surge of Linux users reaching for Linux
software packages with integrated tools, CorelPRESS and
Osborne/McGraw-Hill announced today the publication of Corel LINUX
OS Starter Kit: The Official Guide, by Joe Merlino and Kate
Wrightson.
This authorized guide includes a CD-ROM containing
the Corel LINUX OS and a trial version of Corel WordPerfect 8 for
Linux and directs users through the installation, configuration and
administration of the K Desktop Environment (KDE).”

“Written for Corel LINUX OS users of all levels, Corel LINUX OS
Starter Kit takes readers through all the fundamentals, providing
immediate hands-on assistance with installing Corel LINUX OS and
handling basic configuration. Further chapters cover KDE itself,
system administration tools, and more advanced Linux system
administration. The book also includes three appendices: An
in-depth discussion of the kernel; a useful compendium of common
shell commands; and an exhaustive list of Linux resources on the
Internet. “

“Although the Linux operating system has been called a study of
contradictions because it is both free yet businesses are willing
to pay for it, Linux is no longer a mere curiosity in business IT
environments. According to a new survey by InformationWeek
Research, 26% of IT managers say their companies now use the
operating system, a sharp increase from the mere 14% reported in
March 1999.”
