“Atipa Linux Solutions, a Kansas City technology company that
raised $35 million in venture capital a year ago, has sold its
computer hardware business to Lawrence-based Microtech Computers
Inc….”
“Atipa, which began building a presence in the end-to-end Linux
hardware market in 1999, has laid off 40 of its 50 Kansas City
employees in recent months, including most of its technical staff.
Linux is a free Unix-type operating system that may be used for a
wide variety of purposes, including networking, software
development and as an end-user platform. Linux is often considered
an excellent, low-cost alternative to other operating systems.”
” Darrek Porter, Atipa’s director of corporate communications,
said the layoffs were part of a move to shift Atipa’s focus from
computer hardware to software. In September, Atipa bought OpenNMS,
a Raleigh, N.C., company that is developing network and
system-management software scheduled for commercial release in
June.”
