“If Linux wants to take over the desktop market from Microsoft,
it has to focus on laptops. The reason for this is that within a
few years, the desktop market is going to dry up and blow away.“Laptops are going to replace desktop systems entirely within
the next couple of years. The “desktop” form factor will move up
into the server space, and will no longer be used for new
workstations for web surfing or reading email. Instead it will be
relegated to cheap file servers and firewalls that aren’t worth the
money or effort to rackmount. Just as mainframes were displaced by
minicomputers, and minicomputers were chased away by PC desktops,
the traditional PC is about to give way to the laptop…”
