Linux and Main: KDE Promoters to Launch “KGX”–KDE-GNU-Linux

“The KDE League is working on plans to promote the KDE desktop
atop Linux as a combination they have named “KGX.” A group of
people involved in KDE promotion have worked up the new marketing
nomenclature and have developed a website to publicize it.

“According to the page, the newly named “KGX” Stands for “KDE
running with GNU/Linux.

“As it stands, the name will distinguish KDE on Linux from KDE
running as the desktop on other systems it supports. There has been
considerable discussion within the initiative as to whether what
amounts to a renaming of KDE when it is run with Linux will create
confusion and resentment in the user community and among
developers, with the apparent result that KGX will not be a new
name given to KDE itself (though this, too, was discussed)…”
