“BOSTON — What does Linux mean to the CIO? That’s a question
Jean Staten Healy, IBM’s director of worldwide Linux strategy,
addressed at length during a session at the LinuxCon conference
this week.“CIOs have multiple competing priorities and Healy noted that
Linux is an operating system platform that deserves consideration.
IBM (NYSE: IBM) has more than one operating system in its product
portfolio and also sells its own AIX Unix as well. In the past AIX
was pushed as the primary mission critical operating system at IBM,
but comments made by Healy may indicate a shifting position.“”Linux is on parity with AIX,” Healy told InternetNews.com in
response to a question about how IBM is positioning AIX against
Linux. “Linux enables choice. I think that’s one of the basic
tenants of the faith.”
