“Fujitsu Public Relations representative Scott Ikeda explained a
recent CNET article referring to Fujitsu’s plans to “stop making
new versions of IBM-compatible servers” and shift production lines
“to focus on the manufacturing of computer servers using open
operating systems, such as Linux and Unix.”
“By focusing on the new platform where the customer’s
requirements are, Fujitsu will strive to expand its server
business,” Ikeda said. “Different customers have different
requirements, and by providing a range of different products and
operating environments, we can meet these diverse
requirements.”
“The article refers to the decision involving our U.S.-based
subsidiary, Amdahl, which will stop marketing new generations of
IBM plug compatible mainframe servers and instead shift its focus
to open systems servers including high-end UNIX and Intel-based
servers,” Ikeda explained. “As far as operating systems go, this
will encompass SOLARIS for UNIX, Windows and also Linux.”
