LinuxWorld.com.au: Borcon 2000 reveals Borland’s Linux strategies

“Borcon 2000 – the largest gathering for a single event of
Borland executives outside the US – is being held at the Sydney
Hilton from 4 to 7 November. The event’s sponsors include
Compuware, Red Hat and SoftGen Australia. For more information see
the Web site at www.borland.com.au/borcon2000.”

Linux will be high on the agenda at Borcon 2000, given the
projected release early next year of project Kylix – the name given
to the Delphi and C++ Builder development tools for Linux.

Otherwise known as Rapid Application Development (RAD) tools, the
Kylix project promises to boost dramatically the number of
applications that are written for Linux and, hence, turn it into a
more mainstream platform.”

“With the encouraging response we have had from the Windows
Delphi development community, we are hoping to attract a vast
amount of developers to Linux,” said David Intersimone, vice
president of developer relations at Borland. “Along with this shift
in developers, project Kylix will allow Windows applications to be
ported easily natively to Linux.” When asked about how Kylix would
fit in to the already tight-knit open source development community,
Intersimone remarked on the work that has already been done. “We
have been working with developers, companies and even book authors
to ensure that there is a strong community behind Kylix even before
it is released.”
