“IDC, an information technology analysis company, has released
its Worldwide Software Market Forecast Summary for 2000-2004.
The results of the report indicate that the worldwide packaged
software market is well positioned for strong expansion until 2004,
with Linux to experience robust growth.
As part of the
forecast, IDC indicates that revenues will increase at a compound
annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 15 per cent during the
proposed time….”

“The report yields great news for Linux, for which there is
expected to be strong growth in applications development and
deployment software. In this market, Linux’s revenues will increase
at a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of almost 183 per cent.
Despite the strong growth, Linux’s revenues will be nowhere near
those of 32-bit Windows.”
