“The November 2003 sale of another Linux player, SuSE, to Provo,
Utah-based Novell has created a deep-pocketed competitor that could
offer a stiff fight to Red Hat, say analysts who track the
industry.

“Also, the lurking threat of Unix company SCO, which claims its
code was infringed and is demanding $3 billion from IBM, could
dismember the growing adoption of Linux among companies. SCO has
threatened to bring its first lawsuit against a Fortune 500 user of
Linux in February.

“For now, though, Red Hat is coasting ahead…”
