“Telstra plans to use Sun Microsystems’ just released Mad Hatter
desktop software as a replacement for Microsoft Windows as a part
of its massive technology revamp.Telstra chief information officer Jeff Smith said the telco had
been trialling Mad Hatter–which was formally launched in the US
yesterday as Sun Java Desktop–as part of a series of pilot
programs aimed at reducing IT costs.“Telstra hopes to cut up to $750 million from its $1.5 billion
annual IT budget. It has targeted Microsoft Windows and Office
desktop products, as well as Microsoft’s server platforms as areas
of potential savings…”
