“Although Linux is increasingly popular in the enterprise, not
all Linux distributions will find a place in the corporate data
center. While the Red Hat and SuSE distributions power many
enterprise servers, there are hundreds of Linux distributions, many
of them free, that rarely are used in business settings.

“In theory, at least, these free versions offer a tempting
alternative for enterprises attempting to cut costs.

“Debian is one of these free distributions, arguably one of the
better ones. The factors determining whether or not Debian finds a
place in the enterprise–which remains to be seen–affect many
other distributions, as well as Linux as a whole…”
