“The list of Linux software companies with significant market
share is short: Red Hat and SuSE, in that order, own the lion’s
share of the corporate market. All the others grouped together get
the scraps, collectively falling in the low single digits.

“Not that potential does not exist for any vendor to become a
bigger player. As the market expands into diverse sectors, smaller
vendors can grow with it. ‘Linux on the server is one thing, Linux
on the desktop is another thing, Linux embedded is another thing,’
says Forrester analyst Ted Schadler. ‘So there’s certainly room for
other distributors,’ he told NewsFactor…”
