The Barum commune has asked the Norwegian government for 1.15
million Norwegian kroners [US$173,435/€144,500] to implement a
Linux solution for 15,000 students, 40 schools, and 1,200
teachers.
According to an article at digi.no, project manager Hilde Flugon
indicated that the commune does not want to be stuck in a Windows
world. They have chosen to use SUSE Linux and are currently looking
for a supplier and contractor to handle installation and
maintenance for the project.
The plan is to have all systems up and running within 12
months.
Schools in Tanum and Emma-Hjort have already begun using such a
Linux solution, which has made IT maintenance easier and more
affordable.
