Oakland Tribune: Bay Area Not Reaching for Upgrades

“Recently, Microsoft announced its recent version of the Office
suite of products, software that is generally loaded on desktops
when they are purchased. Since the latest version works optimally
on new Office-specific Microsoft servers, some might think this new
version will be the pivot on which companies begin to again spend
on their hardware and software.

“Apparently not. Broadly speaking, Bay Area companies are still
reluctant to invest in upgrades…

“Michael Zawadski, vice president of operations for Getcare.com,
said the Oakland company had acquired new servers recently and
installed them in a collocation center in Boston. But the company
is using only Linux operating systems and open source
software…”
