“Corel Corp. is pinning its hopes for survival on a fast
market embrace of the new Linux line of products. But new research
shows that U.S. retail demand for Corel’s Linux products is still
less than $500,000 monthly.”
“Chief executive Michael Cowpland has predicted the company will
sell $20 million worth of Linux products this year and that these
products will grow to account for 50 per cent of company sales in
future years.”
“But so far the Linux product line has yet to generate the big
sales Corel needs to replace rapidly declining older products and
ease operating losses of about $20 million each quarter.”
