Ottawa Citizen: Linux crowd not fazed by Corel’s woes

The Linux community is concerned about the cash-flow
problems facing Corel Corp., but remains undaunted about the
commercial potential of the open-source programming

“Exhibitors in the Linux Canada area at the New Media 2000
Conference and Trade Show held this week at the Metro Toronto
Convention Centre said the loss of one company won’t stop Linux’s

“It’s too bad because they were quite the leader, but a lot of
issues involved with the financials might stop them,” said Patrick
Wagner, president of Linux Experts, a Toronto company that provides
custom Linux service and software for businesses. “From Day 1,
Linus Torvalds made it so the open source code allowed every
individual and company to build a community, so it’s never been
dependent on one company like Microsoft.”
