Ottawa Citizen: Microsoft breakup gives Corel new life

Corel Corp. stock surged 31 per cent yesterday as investors
made bets the troubled software company will benefit from a
court-ordered breakup of Microsoft Corp.

“The stock price jumped more than $1 in the last hour of trading
as markets anticipated U.S. District Judge Thomas Penfield
Jackson’s order to split Microsoft into separate companies.”

“It racked up its highest volumes since the heady days of Linux
fever last December when Corel was selling in the $30 range.”
