Ottawa Citizen Online: Corel names new financial chief

“Troubled Corel Corp. has plugged a key hole in its executive
leadership.”

“John Blaine, a native of Ottawa working for Sterling Commerce
Inc. in Ohio, has been appointed chief financial officer. A key
challenge for Mr. Blaine is managing the pending takeover of
Inprise/Borland Corp. of California and to reduce operating costs
of the money-losing company.

“The deal still has to be approved by shareholders and many
Inprise shareholders are upset. The deal is now worth only 30 per
cent of the original $1.1-billion price because of the decline in
Corel stock.”
