“IBM on Monday rolled out a broad range of initiatives around
its DB2 Universal Database, introducing a per-processor pricing
model and announcing an upgrade with new built-in business
intelligence functions and support for Linux.”

“Kicking off a user group conference in Orlando, Fla., IBM also
made official that it would ship later this year a pair of new
trimmed-down DB2 databases designed for mobile workers.”

“IBM will elbow into the market for mobile data management with
DB2 Satellite Edition, an 8MB database for laptop use, and DB2
Everywhere, a 50KB version for hand-held devices running the Palm
and Windows CE operating systems. The two are now in beta.”
