Pervasive Software releases Linux version of its powerful data management software

AUSTIN, TEXAS-June 20, 2001 — Pervasive Software Inc.
(Nasdaq:PVSW), a leading provider of embedded and Web database
software that powers business-critical applications, today
announced the availability of Pervasive.SQL 2000i for Linux. The
Linux version broadens market opportunities for Pervasive partners
who develop, resell and deploy applications based on Pervasive.SQL
2000i. Pervasive’s powerful, low-cost, multi-platform database
engine supports version 2.2 and higher of the Linux kernel, which
is now the fastest-growing operating system, according to IDC.

“Pervasive.SQL 2000i for Linux allowed us to migrate our
multi-user accounting system from Windows NT to Linux, while
preserving our data integrity and giving us the
ease-of-administration, performance and reliability we need to
complement the Linux platform,” said Michael Owens, CTO for Century
21 Mike Bowman, Inc., the top office in closed units in the CENTURY
21 system. “Because of its simplicity and tremendous power we are
now using the database to support our in-house applications,
including the intranet, Internet and our proprietary tools.”

Pervasive.SQL 2000i provides backward compatibility with
existing Btrieve API-based applications on Linux, NetWare and
Windows NT platforms and incorporates a rich set of features to
minimize deployment and support costs, while facilitating Web and
cross-platform migrations. It offers server/requester version
independence, allowing the integration of Linux into an existing
deployment without configuration changes.

In addition, the software supports an extensive array of Web
standards, including ODBC, OLE DB 2.5 and JDBC 2.0. It also
provides support for popular development environments, including
Java, Perl, PHP and other languages, giving Web developers their
choice of environment.

“Linux is being viewed by companies in the small to medium-size
market as an alternative to Windows NT when they migrate from their
legacy UNIX and NetWare environments,” said Bruce Flory, vice
president of marketing for Pervasive Software. “Pervasive.SQL 2000i
for Linux facilitates our partners’ deployment of business-critical
applications onto this increasingly popular platform. Further, by
offering a Linux version, we are providing all ISVs with UNIX-based
applications a database solution that delivers the performance they
are accustomed to with legacy file systems, as well as the
flexibility of ODBC and JDBC access.”
