Faced with stong popular demand for its new transition support
services for Red Hat Linux 7.2 and 7.3, Progeny announced today it
would extend its software updates and transition services to Red
Hat Linux 8.0 and 9 users.

As with the first phase of the service program, security patches
will be available via http retrieval from a software repository or
through Novell’s Ximian Red Carpet Enterprise version 2.0.

“We have received a tremendous response to our initial
announcement to provide software updates for Red Hat Linux 7.2 and
7.3,” commented Progeny CEO Garth Dickey in a statement issued this
morning. “Many people have indicated that they also require support
for Red Hat Linux 8.0 and 9 so we have decided to expand our
offering. This update service will allow those businesses to
transition to a new platform on their own timetable. Progeny
creates and maintains custom Linux platforms; it’s a natural
extension for us to provide these updates.”

Except for the addition of Red Hat Linux 8.0 and 9 support, the
transition services program remains very much the same. Subscribers
will have access to a software repository containing security
updates for Red Hat Linux 7.2, 7.3, 8.0 and 9 and will be notified
of security vulnerabilities and available patches.

Pricing is $5 per machine per month; or a flat rate of $2,500
per month for unlimited machines. The program will officially kick
of on January 1, 2004. For more information on these services,

site
