“The OpenNMS team has been working since last year to
perfect an open-source, Web-based network management system that
will compete with closed-source versions from IBM, Hewlett-Packard
and Computer Associates.“
“As a subsidiary of Atipa, OpenNMS will continue to operate in
Cary. Giles, president of the division, said he expects to add 20
employees in the next year and forecasts a staff of 105, mostly
support technicians, by 2003.”
“OpenNMS’ network management software, currently called
Bluebird, will start being tested by customers next month and will
be ready for a commercial release next spring. Like all open-source
software, the OpenNMS version will be free — a stark contrast to
expensive network management software from established vendors.
Atipa’s plan is to make money through service and support
contracts.”
