“Corel Corp. reported a first-quarter loss of 19 cents per share
on Monday and warned it doesn’t expect its results to improve for
another six months.”
“First-quarter sales, which slid nearly 40 percent from the
fourth quarter, reflected a traditionally weak period coupled with
a shift to new markets such as Linux, the company said.” Corel,
which said manufacture of WordPerfect Office 2000 for Linux will
begin on Tuesday, reported $2.3 million in Linux sales in the
quarter — down from $3.2 million in the previous
quarter.”
“‘Exactly when the takeoff occurs is not easy to nail,’ said
Chief Executive Michael Cowpland in a conference call.”
