“The courtship of Sun Microsystems and Linux has run lukewarm to
cold during the past few years. But now the relationship has heated
up considerably, thanks to Sun’s acquisition of Cobalt, which makes
Linux-based thin servers, and its development of Linux-friendly
development tools. Does that mean that Sun now thinks Linux is hot
stuff? That depends. Sun’s wavering stance towards Linux is
underlined by Hinstorff in an interview with Jan Stafford, site
editor of searchEnterpriseLinux.”

“Analysts say that Sun is cool to Linux. Is that true?”

“Hinstorff: It’s not true. The impression that Sun isn’t doing
much with Linux comes from the fact that our energies around Linux
have been more on the development side and in the back scenes. Even
so, we think Linux is great. To the very top of the company there’s
a lot of enthusiasm for Linux, because Linux has been good for the
overall UNIX market. We want to help Linux to drive Unix
forward.”
