“We came back from our respective Thanksgiving feasts expecting
to find a Unix community as bloated and sleepy as we felt. Surely,
we reasoned, no one was going to make any big moves this week.
After all, we could barely get off our couches.

“Needless to say, we were a little surprised when Sun
Microsystems announced Wednesday it was planning on making Java
Enterprise System, Sun N1 Management software, and some Sun
developer tools available as free-of-charge, open source
applications.

“Maybe they just don’t eat turkey out there in Mountain
