hosted by VA Linux to customize server configurations (e.g.,
front-end Web servers, file and print, cache), including an initial
choice of 700 applications. Alternatively, less-sophisticated users
can select from recommended configurations.”

“The VA Linux model is an approach necessary to draw more
enterprise interest in Linux. Users with specific server
requirements that are intended to capitalize on open source
software in a specific role in the enterprise will find the VA
Linux model attractive.”

“However, users should test the overall robustness of the VA
Linux infrastructure in the early stages of deployment to ensure
that large deployments can be managed well. Users will also need to
be vigilant to maintain hardware configuration consistency as well
as operating system and application release consistency.”
