“Chip-making newcomer Transmeta is apparently for real.”
“The Santa Clara, Calif.-based manufacturer of low-power PC and
embedded microprocessors said that, as expected, four top-tier
notebook vendors displayed Transmeta-powered notebooks as part of a
technology demonstration at PC Expo here.”
“The company also offered a glimpse of its PC and embedded
technology road map.”
“The idea is to build a computer with seven and a half hours of
battery life,” said Adalio Sanchez, general manager of mobile
computing at IBM’s Personal Systems Group, Research Triangle Park,
N.C. “We believe we can leverage this [chip] to build the first
‘all-day’ computer.“
