VA Linux Lays Off DRI Developers, Other Cuts Reported

By Michael Hall,
Managing Editor

VA Linux has, according to developer Brian Paul, laid off
developers working on DRI:

“Here’s the deal. The DRI developers, including myself,
have been laid-off from VA Linux. Today (Friday) is my last day.

There’s an effort to relocate us to a new organization but it’s
too early to say what’ll happen on that front.

In the mean time, some of us will try to do some DRI work in our
spare time. Progress might be slow though. Volunteers are all the
more welcome now.”

The layoffs are, according to several sources, part of a larger
trend that’s seen the company cut not only members of the DRI team
but the bulk of its software engineering and professional services
units. An item in
F***edCompany.com
reports that the company has cut staffing to
about 100 employees, down dramatically from its peak of
approximately 600 employees.

Representatives from the company failed to reply to queries
regarding the reports.
