” ‘The renewal and reinvention of Hewlett-Packard is under way,’
said Carly Fiorina, president and chief executive of HP, based
here, in a call with analysts following the release of the
company’s quarterly earnings. HP reiterated growth targets of 12
percent to 15 percent for both revenue and earnings for the full
year.”

“Fiorina also spoke about HP’s Linux strategy, noting that Linux
is complementary to HP-UX, the Unix operating system that powers
HP’s midrange servers. ‘Our strategy really is focused on
encouraging the use of Linux as a development environment and then
providing the tools and the facilities to enable developers to
easily target HP-UX for large-scale deployments
, so what that
really means is that ISVs who are developing on Linux can also
support HP-UX when they need the high-availability features. We
think that’s going to be a real advantage for us,’ Fiorina
said.”
