“In an e-mail exchange with VARBusiness’ editorial director,
Robert DeMarzo, Palmisano outlined his thoughts on the future of
Linux, the need for services and applications that integrate the
enterprise and the importance of e-sourcing.”

DeMarzo: What emerging technology do you
predict will be the hottest technology for solution providers in
2001, and why?

Palmisano: …if you want to talk about a
single technology, as we think about the open world of the next
generation of e-business, we think Linux is a game-changer. It
clearly has huge momentum as a growth platform–the server growth
in Linux is startling–and we believe that Linux and NT will emerge
as the development platforms of choice.

I believe that our commitment to bring Linux into the world
of mainstream, secure, reliable, available transaction-intensive
computing and work with the open-source community will be good for
both IBM and for the entire industry, especially for solution
providers who see the potential that Linux offers.”
