“Businesses might soon have more reasons to adopt Linux,
following the release of Borland’s Kylix application development
toolkit which will allow developers to import code from existing
Windows applications.”

“Analysts say one factor delaying the deployment of Linux is the
shortage of third-party software that runs on the operating system,
and that the Linux-focused tools may change this.”

“This is a major issue affecting the adoption of Linux,” said
Paul Mason, vice president of software research at IDC. “Linux
isn’t going anywhere without the development environments and other
infrastructure necessary to make it all work. … The fact that
Borland has done this is important, because it is one of the
leading developer platforms and, combined with IBM’s commitment,
Linux starts to become more mainstream,” said Mason.”
