“Signaling the deliverance of Linux from young, daring warrior
to fearless ruler, Linus Torvalds smartly summed the OS?s success
in the last year with two words: “Penguins everywhere.” The humble
founder of Linux delivered a typically relaxed-yet-rousing keynote
here Monday evening to a packed house of adoring followers.”

Yet despite the fascinating success of the OS and its
open-source roots, Torvalds admitted that Linux still has
shortcomings – although the ever-progressive nature of open-source
computing fixes problems faster than other environments.

“Programmers just want to have fun,” Torvalds said. “That’s
still the main reason programmers find open source so compelling.”
And addressing the allure of Linux and open-source within the
corporate realm, he said, “It’s about bringing users and developers
closer together.”
